Research assistant

Look for an ancestor across open archives in one search, let Claude dig further, and get help reading old records in other languages. Everything you find can be saved to your tree or pasted into FamilySearch and Ancestry with a proper citation.

Go deeperHow this works, and what we don't do

We search archives that publish open search APIs: Open Archives (millions of Dutch, Belgian and other European civil and church records), the Library of Congress's historic newspapers, the Internet Archive's digitized books, and Wikidata. With AI help on, Claude reads those results and runs a few web searches for obituaries, cemetery listings and local histories.

We don't sign in to or copy from FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage or Find a Grave. Their terms don't allow it, and your accounts there matter. We open their search pages for you instead, and give you citations formatted to paste into their “Add source” forms.

Behold, my sons, I desire that ye should remember to keep the commandments of God; and I would that ye should declare unto the people these words. Behold, I have given unto you the names of our first parents who came out of the land of Jerusalem; and this I have done that when you remember your names ye may remember them; and when ye remember them ye may remember their works; and when ye remember their works ye may know how that it is said, and also written, that they were good.

Questions

Which archives does it search?

Open Archives (hundreds of millions of Dutch, Belgian and other European civil and church records), the Library of Congress's Chronicling America newspapers, the Internet Archive's digitized books and county histories, and Wikidata. With AI help on, Claude also runs a few searches of the open web.

Can I put what I find into FamilySearch or Ancestry?

Yes. Each result has Copy citation, formatted for their "Add source" forms (title, link, citation and notes). Results you save to your TempleKit tree also travel with your GEDCOM file.

Is AI help free?

During the beta you get a few free AI runs a day. Archive searches without AI are always free.

What does “Watch for new records” do?

Once a day TempleKit re-runs the Open Archives search (hundreds of millions of European civil and church records, with more added every week) for each ancestor you watch and keeps any record it hasn't seen before, so you see "3 new" next time you visit. Only ancestors who have died can be watched. Stop watching any time.

Can it read Dutch, German or Latin handwriting?

Usually. Claude transcribes the record, translates it and lists everyone in it, marking anything it's unsure of. Always compare its reading with the image.
